so when craft in america was in Kansas City in February, they interviewed me about my work and my time at the art instutute. it didn’t make the final cut for the segment in the TV program (which was very good, by the way) but they did end up posting nearly a minute of it on their website! check it out HERE. you can also listen to my studio mate mihwa im talk about her work.
it’s been awhile!
•September 23, 2009 • Leave a Commentso, there isn’t a whole lot to report here, just trying to keep life afloat. my fiance and i just moved into our new apartment, still in Kansas City, and it is a lot nicer than the old apartment. I also recently had the pleasure of going home and taking my brother Chris to college in Boston. that was fun because we stopped at Niagra Falls, Ontatio on the way to Massachusetts, (we drove through Canada to get to New York). I am adding a photo album to my travels section so you can see all the photos i took on the way.
in other excitement, the KCAI ceramics department is going to be featured in a documentary called Craft in America: Episode V, Process airing on KCPT October 7, 2009 at 8:00pm. i was able to see the preview of the KCAI section yesterday at the advanced screening provided by Craft in America and the Kemper Museum. If you are in an area other than Kansas City, check your local listings for the air date and time in your area.

ahhh, what a summer!
•August 3, 2009 • Leave a Commentso, usually this time of year i would be frantically trying to get ready to go back to school and attempting to make it to Michigan for one last visit before thanksgiving. well, i must say that it is nice to not have my summer have an exact expiration date.
many things have happened since i last wrote including:
- went to Christopher, Illinois for the funeral of my great-great aunt Hautie (Hortence) who died at the age of 99. she got to see so much and luckily passed away quickly without suffering. my dad’s whole side of the family (minus a couple kids and spouses here and there) made it and it was an amazing time. we all celebrated the life that Hautie lived and had a blast together. hopefully a family reunion will be in the works so that we don’t have to go another 8 years without seeing each other.
- DEAN AND I ARE OFFICIALLY ENGAGED! he asked me to marry him while we were on our vacation in Omaha, NE to celebrate our 2-year anniversary. while we were there we went to the zoo, which was amazing, and also explored the city a little bit. we ate at an amazing Italian restaurant called La Sole Mio, a cute little family-run, cheesily-decorated place with delicious food. we are planning on the wedding being in spring 2011, possibly May.
- i am now going to have two of my pieces on consignment at The Hook Gallery which is a new gallery located right next door to Murray’s. the owner saw my blog and liked my work so much he agreed to carry it on the spot. that is pretty neat
- in late August and early September i get to go home and help ship my brother off to school in Boston. he is going to be at Emerson college for technical theater studies. should be a fun trip- i have never been there!
dean, michelle and myself are still trying to find a new place to live, where hopefully i will have a studio space (i’m going stir crazy!!!) i will post photos of the trip to Omaha and my ring as soon as i can find my camera cable…
new rhythm
•June 22, 2009 • Leave a Commenttrying to settle into my new pattern of life after graduation. i still feel like i am going to have to move back into studio come august. dean, michelle (my roommate) and i are still trying to find a new apartment, which to say the least has been less than a fruitful endeavor. i think finding a anew place to call home after living in the same apartment for three years is going to do me wonders. i am hoping that we are going to get a place that will have enough space for me to have a studio space again. i would love to be working on some new projects, but i don’t really have the space right now. i do, however, have the time…
i have been talking to the owner of a new gallery in westport right next door to murray’s. it opens soon and is called “the hook”. i am hoping to be able to show there, seeing as the owner works exclusively with KC artists.
i will be sure to post if i make any new work or have any exciting new headway with life.
much love,
-liz
ahhhh- and it calms down!
•June 4, 2009 • Leave a Commentso, i am back in KC and working full time at murray’s. i had a blast with my graduation and then going to Michigan for my brother’s graduationg from high school. so starting may 13, here is the run down of the graduation marathon:
- 5-13-09: my parent’s arrive in KC.
- 5-14-09: i work at Murray’s after a day of exams.
- 5-15-09: the KCAI BFA show closes at the H & R Block Space and i go to dinner with the family.
- 5-16-09: i graduate and we have people over to the apartment for burgers and celebration.
- 5-17-19: graduation brunch at dean’s parents. soooo much fun!!!
- 5-18-09: we move me out of studio for the last time ever :[ took all day too! and got an oil change.
- 5-19-09: drove straight through to Saginaw, MI from KC with a three-hour stop in Indianapolis for dinner with family there. poor dean met 14 family members in one go.
- 5-20-09: got to MI at 3:00 AM and then packed up the car again and drove to Interlochen.
- 5-21-09: Chris’s graduation open house. BUSY day. drove through Traverse City like 8,000 times.
- 5-22-09: Chris’s honors convocation. took FOREVER. but got to explore Traverse City and look at engagement rings during the day. :3
- 5-23-09: Chris’s graduation. moved him out of the dorms and drove back to Saginaw.
- 5-24-09: dinner party with friends.
- 5-25-09: drove from Saginaw to Indianapolis.
- 5-26-09: drove from Indianapolis to Columbia, MO to hang out with friends.
- 5-17-09: got up early to drive back to KC and worked at 11:30 AM. DONE.
needless to say, i Dean and i were pretty tired by the time we got home. it was a blast though and it was worth the exhaustion… so the plan now is to work at Murray’s for the rest of the season with a trip to Omaha and the Henry Dorley zoo for mine and dean’s 2 year, and a trip to Michigan before chris leaves for Emerson College in Boston where he is going to be a Theater Tech major. I am hoping to find a way to fire my work that i want to make this summer. i will update photos when i make stuff!
it is official!

Update and News
•March 5, 2009 • Leave a CommentSo many things have happened since i have written! part of that has to do with the fact that it has been ages since i last wrote. Currently i am getting ready for midterms. I have two exams and a crit next week and i am trying to pump out the work AND study all at the same time… what a blast!
in studio i am working on more tile designs, a pattern for the fireplace and continuing the ‘Home’ series. i am using the Gee’s Bend quilts as inspiration, and you should check out my new section in my source area for them. they are beautiful and were created with scraps of fabric that were left from other projects. i am using this in the way that the tiles i have made are scraps and bits of images from my family life. check out the images in my source section.
oh, several weeks ago, Craft in America’s PBS series came and spent most of a week in KC filming the KCAI ceramics department. they interviewed Cary, several alumni, Victor Babu and many of the current students- including me! the segment is going to air (hopefully) in the fall and will only be about 9-15 minutes long, so there is a good chance that many of us, including me, could end up on the cutting room floor, but we will see what happens.
i will post images of my work in progress after my midterm.
