gee’s bend quilts

The Gee’s Bend quilts come from an area by a curve in the Alabama River near Selma, Alabama.  This rich quilting tradition was started by women using distinct American and African American quilting patterns, and have passed down their techniques through six generations leading to present day.

Each of the quilters from Gee’s Bend use their quilting as a very personal expression.  They pride themselves on their patterns and each quilt top is representative of only one artist.
